An Undergraduate manufacturing engineer at Boston University
Current Projects
Currently I occupy myself as the chief engineer and wheels team lead at Boston University’s Formula Hybrid team, Terrier Motorsport. This means that I provide assistance and design oversight for several projects involving the team’s latest car. AS wheels team lead, I was responsible for reworking the team’s wheel assembly design from our last car to make improvements on our next platform. I frequently confer with machinists at BU’s on campus project center, and have experience of my own working with 3-axis mills and lathes to fabricate parts.
This past summer, I worked as a manufacturing design intern at a small manufacturing company in Grey, Maine. At Better Box Company, I worked closely with the company’s owner to develop a new machine on the assembly line that is intended to improve the reliability of the machine.
In my spare time, I enjoy taking my motorcycle to places unknown with my friends. This past summer, I rode from Portland to Charleston and back, spending time on the blue ridge parkway and other scenic American routes and towns.
I feel that, to some degree or another, the final year of undergrad can be daunting and filled with mystery. Despite this, one thing I know for certain is that I’m looking forward to testing the skills that I’ve learned in a practical setting and using my time to make the world a better place.
Product Design
A class dedicated to teaching fundamental mechanical design skills to undergraduate engineers at Boston University
Better School Desk
Conceptual design of a retrofitted adjustable school desk
Plotter Pen
A linkage to retract and extend a pen on a plotting device
Skateboard Deck
An exercise in design iteration using FEA and Solidworks
Design Projects
Black and Decker Break Down
A first venture into the study of engineering design. This project for my intro to CAD class was a breakdown and design study of a Black and Decker handheld electric drill and its epicyclic gearing.
Home Workbench
Often times I find myself in want of projects when I’m home over winter break. A couple years back, I decided it was time to create a workspace in my basement. The centerpiece of my new workspace my new workbench, built by hand with my own tools.
Scarlett Wheel Assemblies
Wheel assemblies are the interface between the car and the road. Not only do they need to be light and strong, they need to interact with the steering, suspension, powertrain, and brakes to get the most out of the primary systems and the driver. Last year, my responsibilities for Terrier Motorsport included design a new set of wheel assemblies for the club’s second car.
Scarlett Battery Container
Energy storage is a delicate and complex part of engineering an electric vehicle. Terrier Motorsport uses a 300V accumulator system to power the vehicle which needs to be properly secured and isolated in the vehicle to ensure the safety of the team mechanics and drivers. As chief engineer of the team, part of my job is to design a battery container that is light, durable, and easily accessible to ensure the safety of my team and the success of the car.
